Katidja (Kat) Coleman- When I was 18 (2005), I started working as an apprentice under two retired Certified Locksmiths in New York City. The art of this job is one of patience and willingness to learn something new every day. After studying for a couple years, I moved to Houston Texas where I transformed an old van into a mobile shop and worked under a great group of guys who loved to share information and teach. Working with one of the best safe crackers in America I received some of the greatest advice. “Specialize in one thing, but be knowledgeable at everything, you will always be guaranteed work!” After working in Houston for a couple years it was time for me to continue growing in the trade. I enlisted in the Navy in 2009, for two years I worked for the Locksmith shop in Norfolk that handled jobs on various bases and ships. Because of my civilian experience I was able to train a great team. Growing as a leader and handling stressful situations was something I looked forward to, it was exciting! I then went on a ship to finish out the last two years of my four-year contract, it was then that the brainstorming of opening a locksmith company started. In 2013 I moved back to the great state of Vermont, where I was born and raised. I decided this would be a great place to settle down and open my business. It took close to three years of planning; #1 Lock Security was born in September 2015 and the official launch was January 1, 2016. We are a small business that is built on integrity. Customers need to have options and choices to be able to get good quality and affordable locks. In the time of emergencies, with break ins, lost or stolen keys, people need to be able to have someone they can call, to handle their problem quickly and efficiently so they can feel safe again. Having worked previously in big cities where there are many options for locksmiths, I discovered Vermont doesn't have many options, especially in the central area. #1 Lock Security is now here to service your needs throughout the state and central area!
